Poppy Field Textile Art – By Jane Spencer
Painted canvas embellished with antique lace, muslin, threads, cord and Lutradur and extensively stitched with free motion machine embroidery. Free motion machine stitching is a technique where I ‘draw’ with a sewing machine using free motion.
The canvas and lace was painted with inktense inks. These inks behave like water colour on fabric and are permanent when ironed. The poppies are made from lutradur – a man made fibre that was painted then stitched using free motion machine stitching. Little holes were then melted into the petals with a heat gun, giving the appearance of fragility.
